Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speech writer. Feminist Frequency is a site where you can find videos and other commentary on the representation of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines gender roles within pop culture, is managed by Sarkeesian. Removing gender stereotypes is the main goals of her organization. However, Sarkeesian also wants to highlight issues such as the discrimination and harassment of women online. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in Political and Social Thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender and feminism since the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was studying at the University. She had a plan to begin a web program that examined gender representations within video games, and was herself at the center of a cyber-bullying campaign. Although the incident did not deter her instead it only bolstered her determination as a feminist critic of media. Her notable contributions to the feminist field has been acknowledged by many awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit company that examines the ways women are depicted in pop stories of culture.
